Live Today and Plan for the Future
Earlier this year, I listened to Podcast that Oprah and Eckhart Tolle: A New Earth which made me look for more about Eckhart Tolle and I found his book “The Power of Now” which has sold over 2 millions copies worldwide. He told us after regaining awareness of Being, liberated from the mind and intensely in the Now, is there Enlightenment. I do agree with his context, but I also find motivation and power in living for a future. We sure can have both; we can choose to be happy now and also moving forward for inspiring goals in the future. In the book, Man’s search for meaning by psychiatrist Viktor Frankl, he shared his experience in Nazi concentration camps. The survivors in the field had some future goal they looked forward to beyond more survival, which gave a spiritual depth to their lives and pursuit of what they find meaningful.
To sum up, we create power in our lives when we create a context to live. For me, it is an excellent thing to have a future vision, which makes me happier today, like when I looked forward to my birthday present when I was a child.
People want to lose weights but are no joy for the sake of losing them. By visualizing a “why” into a story that we are pursuing, we are strengthened to endure the ‘how’ today.
Creating a future vision and setting future goals is how we live with purpose rather than by default. Without it, life happens, and we spend our time and energy dealing with problems. We are not creating what we want but instead reacting to what we don’t want. It is like in the quote from Gloria Steinem, ‘without leaps of imagination or dreaming; we lose the excitement of possibilities, Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.
What are you most excited about now? What are you looking forward to your life? What do you need to change today to realize your future vision?
Enjoy your journey to the future.
Live your life, Love your life.
